"My standards are too high. I expect too much from relationships and should lower expectations."
How it sounds in your head: You've been told you're 'demanding' or have 'unrealistic expectations.' Relationships disappoint you because you want depth, and everyone seems content with surface. Maybe you're the problem.
"I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
-- Philippians 3:14Enemy strategy to normalize shallow relationships by labeling your hunger for authentic connection as excessive.
Friendships feel disappointing because you want more than surface talk. Your marriage has tension because you expect emotional intimacy. Counselors have suggested you 'accept people where they are,' which feels like settling.
Solomon could have asked God for wealth, long life, or victory—instead he asked for wisdom to judge well. God called it a GOOD request and gave him wisdom PLUS the things he didn't ask for because his standards were HIGH.
I REFUSE the lie that my standards are too high or my expectations unreasonable. IT IS WRITTEN that I press toward the goal of the upward call—God celebrates hunger for MORE, not settling for less. I am NOT demanding for wanting depth. The BARAK blessing means I am blessed with relationships that match my capacity, not diminish it. IT IS WRITTEN that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all I ask or think—my high expectations align with HIS abundance. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and my hunger for authentic connection is holy, not high-maintenance.
The Father isn't asking you to lower your standards—He's raising people UP to meet you. Your hunger for depth is HIS hunger in you, and He's orchestrating connections worthy of the son He's made you.
