"My prayers aren't working because I don't have enough faith like others do."
How it sounds in your head: I see guys who pray with such confidence and authority. They KNOW God will move. I'm over here hoping, maybe even believing a little, but not with that kind of certainty. Maybe my faith meter just isn't high enough.
"For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith."
-- Romans 12:3Religious teaching that makes faith a work you perform and a quantity you measure, rather than a gift you receive.
He hears 'faith like a mustard seed' and wonders why his faith doesn't move mountains. He feels like faith is something he has to manufacture or increase through effort, and he's constantly checking his faith levels like a spiritual gas gauge.
The father brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus and said, 'If You can do anything, have compassion on us.' Jesus challenged him, and the father cried out, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!' Jesus healed the boy IMMEDIATELY despite the father's admitted doubting faith. Breakthrough came with mixed faith and honest desperation.
I REFUSE the lie that I need more faith. IT IS WRITTEN: God has already given me a measure of faith—Romans 12:3. Faith is a gift, not a work I perform—Ephesians 2:8. IT IS WRITTEN: faith like a mustard seed—the SMALLEST seed—moves mountains. The father cried 'help my unbelief' and Jesus still healed his son. My breakthrough isn't based on the strength of my faith but on the strength of Jesus' finished work. The BARAK protected Abraham's household even when Abraham was lying out of fear—the blessing wasn't based on perfect faith. I already have enough faith because I have Jesus.
Your Father isn't measuring your faith with a spiritual dipstick. He's moved by your need, not your certainty. The man with mixed faith and honest doubt got the same miracle as the centurion with great faith.
