"My perfectionist nature drove people away—I should have been easier, more relaxed about everything."
How it sounds in your head: I was always the one with high standards, needing things done right. People said I was too rigid, too hard to please. Maybe if I'd been more laid-back, my relationships would have been smoother. Now I see all the tension I created and wish God had made me less intense.
"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men."
-- Colossians 3:23World's celebration of 'chill' culture and dismissal of excellence-driven personalities as toxic or controlling.
Years of feedback that she was 'too much,' 'too picky,' or 'too hard to please' created shame about her standards. Every relational friction seems traceable to her intensity, making her wish she'd been wired differently.
God filled Bezalel with His Spirit specifically for detail-oriented, perfectionistic work—craftsmanship, design, artistic precision. God CELEBRATED his exacting standards and used them to build the Tabernacle exactly right.
I REFUSE the lie that my perfectionist nature was a flaw or drove God's love away. IT IS WRITTEN to do everything heartily as unto the Lord—my drive for excellence reflected HIS heart. My high standards were DESIGNED into me for His purposes. I am righteous by GRACE, not by being more laid-back. The BARAK blessing covered me even when my intensity created friction—God's favor wasn't based on being 'chill.' IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation—God never wanted me less intense. He made me passionate about excellence, and that was GOOD.
The Father is running toward you saying, 'Your perfectionism was a GIFT I gave you—it reflected My own heart for beauty!' He's celebrating every standard you held, every detail you cared about, wrapping the robe around you without asking you to relax first.
