"My parents' divorce is proof that family and commitment are lies."
How it sounds in your head: They promised 'till death do us part' and it didn't even make it through middle school for me. If they couldn't keep the most important promise, why would I believe anyone else's promises—including God's?
"If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself."
-- 2 Timothy 2:13Enemy using parental covenant-breaking to create skepticism toward ALL covenant, especially God's unbreakable one.
You watched the most foundational relationship in your world implode. The brokenness is evidence you can touch, and it makes every promise feel fragile.
God told Hosea to marry Gomer, who repeatedly cheated on him and left him. Instead of divorcing her, God told Hosea to BUY HER BACK from slavery and love her again—a living picture that even when we are faithless, God remains faithful and pursues us anyway.
I REFUSE the lie that my parents' broken covenant means all promises are lies. IT IS WRITTEN that even when we are faithless, God remains FAITHFUL—He CANNOT deny Himself. Their divorce doesn't define God's nature; His unchangeable character does. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 13:5 that He will NEVER leave me nor forsake me—that's not a feeling-based promise, that's a NATURE-based guarantee. The BARAK covenant blessing God made with Abraham couldn't be broken even when Abraham LIED—how much more is God's covenant with me through Christ's blood unbreakable? I am HELD by a Father who doesn't break promises, doesn't leave, doesn't give up. I am SECURE.
The Father's heart is breaking WITH you over your parents' divorce, not judging you through it. He's not another unpredictable authority figure—He's the one solid foundation in a world of broken promises, and He's whispering, 'I will never do to you what they did to each other. I am HERE. Always.'
