"My parents didn't protect me when I needed them, so I can't trust God to protect me now."
How it sounds in your head: They knew what was happening and did nothing. I was a kid and they were supposed to keep me safe. If earthly parents fail you, why would a heavenly Father be any different? I'm dying soon and I don't trust Him to be there either.
"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up."
-- Psalm 27:10Enemy projecting parental failure onto God's character, using human betrayal to distort divine nature.
The theology says God is Father, but the only father-experience you have is abandonment when you needed protection most. Every 'trust God' sermon bounces off the scar tissue of that primal betrayal.
Abandoned in the desert with her son by Abraham and Sarah, no water, child dying, completely unprotected by those who should have cared. She wept expecting death—God OPENED HER EYES to a well that was already there and promised to make her son a great nation. Instant provision, instant protection, instant future.
I REFUSE the lie that my parents' failure to protect me predicts God's. IT IS WRITTEN that when father and mother forsake me, the LORD takes me up. My earthly parents' betrayal doesn't define my heavenly Father's character. He is not like them. IT IS WRITTEN that He will never leave me nor forsake me. Hagar was abandoned to die and God opened her eyes to provision already present. The BARAK blessing commands the Lord to be my rear guard and my shield. I am protected RIGHT NOW by a Father who saw every moment I needed protection and is making it right.
The Father wasn't absent when your parents failed you—He was grieving WITH you, holding what they dropped, and He's been your actual protector every day since even when you couldn't see Him. Now He's running to show you He's been there all along.
