"My panic attacks prove I don't really trust God with my future."
How it sounds in your head: If I truly believed God had my back, I wouldn't feel this terror. My heart racing and hands shaking show that deep down, I don't actually trust Him. I'm a hypocrite who says I have faith but proves otherwise.
"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!'"
-- Mark 9:24Religious lie equating physical anxiety responses with spiritual failure, denying the reality of autonomic nervous system reactions.
His body's panic response feels like proof of internal unbelief. The physical symptoms seem to contradict trust, making him question his own faith.
Jonah experienced overwhelming panic in the fish's belly - 'my soul fainted within me' - yet God heard his prayer from that place of terror and delivered him. God didn't require calm before He rescued; He rescued panic and all.
I REFUSE the lie that panic attacks disqualify me from God's love or prove failed faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus honored the man who brought both belief AND unbelief, healing despite the struggle. My nervous system's response is not a spiritual verdict. I am not measured by my body's fight-or-flight reactions. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, fully righteous even with racing heartbeat and trembling hands. The BARAK blessing of Abraham covers me in panic, declaring me blessed regardless of physical symptoms. I stand in grace, not in performance of perfect peace.
The Father sees your panic attacks and He's not disappointed - He's holding you through the storm like Jesus held the disciples. While you're condemning yourself for physical symptoms, He's whispering 'Peace, be still' over both the circumstance and your self-judgment.
