"My needs are too demanding—I should require less to be more lovable."
How it sounds in your head: I watched my boyfriend's face fall when I asked for reassurance. My friends roll their eyes when I need to talk through something. I hear 'needy' and 'clingy' in my head every time I want connection. Maybe if I needed less, people would stay.
"Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart."
-- Psalm 37:4Enemy + trauma: The accuser uses past relational wounds and cultural 'independence' lies to convince you that having needs makes you a burden.
You've been called needy, clingy, or high-maintenance. You've watched low-maintenance girls get pursued while you got ghosted. Your vulnerability has been weaponized against you in arguments.
She said 'I have no needs' when Elisha offered help, trying to be low-maintenance. But when her son died, she DEMANDED the prophet come immediately—and God raised her son from the dead INSTANTLY because she finally expressed her real need.
I REFUSE the lie that my needs make me unlovable. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me the DESIRES of my heart when I delight in Him—He doesn't shame me for wanting connection, reassurance, or love. My emotional needs are not character flaws; they're how He designed relationship. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in the city and in the field, coming in and going out, and that includes coming to Him WITH NEEDS. The BARAK blessing means I'm provided for before I even ask. I will not shrink my needs to fit someone's emotional unavailability. My Father RUNS toward me when I'm needy, not away.
Your Father doesn't sigh when you need Him—He's been WAITING for you to ask. The prodigal's father had the robe, ring, and sandals already PREPARED. He wasn't annoyed by his son's needs; he was THRILLED to finally meet them.
