"My naturally reserved, private nature makes me cold, unavailable, and unable to build real community."
How it sounds in your head: I don't share easily. I process internally, open up slowly, guard my private life. Church culture celebrates vulnerability, transparency, 'doing life together.' I've been told I have walls up, that I'm distant. At 63, I wonder if my reservedness really does keep me from the intimacy God wants for me.
"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life."
-- Proverbs 4:23Oversharing culture equates privacy with emotional unavailability, making boundaries seem like barriers to love.
She's watched 'vulnerable' people praised while she's labeled 'closed off.' Every small group that demands immediate deep sharing makes her wiring feel like relational failure.
After the shepherds visited, everyone spread the word—but Mary 'kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.' She didn't process publicly, didn't share everything, treasured privately. God chose HER to carry the Messiah—her reservedness was TRUSTWORTHINESS.
I REFUSE the lie that privacy is coldness. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Keep your heart with diligence'—my reservedness is OBEDIENCE, not isolation. I am not closed off; I am DISCERNING about who gets access to my inner world. The enemy tried to shame me for boundaries, but IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in my storehouses—and storehouses have DOORS. The BARAK blessing includes wisdom about what to guard. I am not unavailable. I am AVAILABLE to those God assigns, protecting what He entrusted with the dignity it deserves.
The Father isn't asking you to tear down every wall. He's whispering, 'I gave you those boundaries—they're not barriers but GATEKEEPERS.' He's celebrating every time you protected your heart, every 'no' that preserved your peace, throwing you a party for refusing to cheapen what's priceless by giving it to everyone.
