"My natural skepticism and slow-to-trust nature reveals a hard heart that needs to be more open and trusting."
How it sounds in your head: You don't trust easily—people have to earn it, prove themselves. Christian teaching says you should be more open, more gracious, quicker to trust. Maybe your guardedness is just a hard heart that dishonors people.
"The simple believes every word, but the prudent considers well his steps."
-- Proverbs 14:15Naive church culture that mistakes wisdom and discernment for cynicism and calls appropriate boundaries 'lack of love.'
You've watched trusting people get burned and you've been called 'suspicious,' 'guarded,' 'not giving people a chance.' Maybe your skepticism is really just fear and unforgiveness masquerading as wisdom.
After performing miracles and many believing, Scripture says 'Jesus did not commit Himself to them, for He knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.' Jesus was SLOW TO TRUST—that's not hardness, that's WISDOM.
I REFUSE the lie that skepticism is a hard heart. IT IS WRITTEN: The simple believes every word, but the PRUDENT considers his steps—my discernment is WISDOM, not cynicism. I am not guarded out of fear; I am WISE as a serpent, protecting what God has entrusted. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus did not commit Himself to everyone—He knew what was in man. I am not too skeptical; I am APPROPRIATELY DISCERNING. My slow-to-trust nature isn't dishonor; it's STEWARDSHIP. The BARAK blessing includes protection—my discernment guards it.
The Father isn't asking you to be more naive—He's affirming your wisdom. He's running toward your discernment saying 'Son, I gave you that skepticism as a SHIELD; don't let anyone shame you for using it.'
