"My natural skepticism and critical thinking mean I lack childlike faith."
How it sounds in your head: I question everything, analyze assumptions. The Bible talks about childlike faith and I wonder if my skeptical nature is blocking genuine trust. Maybe my tendency to think critically is just cynicism that keeps me from experiencing God's best.
"These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so."
-- Acts 17:11Naive faith teaching that mistakes gullibility for trust, ignoring that Bereans were COMMENDED for examining everything and testing the spirits is COMMANDED.
Religious culture has praised 'simple faith' while treating his questions and critical analysis as obstacles to belief. His skepticism has been framed as the opposite of trust, making him feel like his intellectual rigor is fundamentally opposed to genuine faith.
The Bereans heard Paul preach and DIDN'T just accept it - they went home and searched Scriptures DAILY to verify everything. They were called 'more fair-minded' and 'noble' for their skepticism and critical examination. Their questioning was celebrated as MATURITY, not doubt.
I REFUSE the lie that my skeptical, critical thinking opposes genuine faith. IT IS WRITTEN that the Bereans were noble because they EXAMINED everything. My Father RAN toward me when I was questioning and analyzing - He's not threatened by scrutiny. I am the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God in Christ, and IT IS WRITTEN to test all things. My skepticism is PROTECTION and WISDOM. The BARAK blessing covered Abraham who questioned God's plan, Gideon who tested with fleeces, Bereans who examined daily. I am blessed in my discernment and my critical thinking.
Your Father LOVES that you won't swallow everything you're told. He's been PROTECTING you from a thousand false teachings through that skeptical filter. While others chase every wind of doctrine, you're ANCHORED because you TEST everything against His Word.
