"My lack of faith or doubt is why my prayers aren't answered and God is disappointed."
How it sounds in your head: Jesus said 'if you have faith as a mustard seed' - but I have SO MUCH DOUBT. Maybe that's why nothing happens. I've failed the faith test and God is frustrated with me.
"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!'"
-- Mark 9:24Faith-as-works teaching that makes belief a PERFORMANCE to achieve instead of a GIFT to receive, turning trust into one more thing to 'get right.'
She's been told 'name it and claim it' and 'just believe' for decades while her prayers seemed unheard. At 90+ with a lifetime of disappointments, summoning perfect doubt-free faith feels IMPOSSIBLE - so she assumes she failed.
Peter's faith was strong enough to STEP OUT of the boat, then he doubted and started sinking. Jesus didn't let him drown or say 'I can't help doubters.' He IMMEDIATELY reached out His hand and caught him - doubt and all.
I REFUSE the lie that my doubt cancels God's power or disappoints Him. IT IS WRITTEN that even the man who said 'help my unbelief' got his miracle - Jesus responds to my COMING, not my perfect faith. I am not generating belief through effort; faith is a GIFT God dealt to me. IT IS WRITTEN even faith comes from HIM, so I'm not failing a test - I'm RECEIVING what He freely gives. I declare my prayers are answered not because I believe perfectly but because HE is faithful perfectly. My doubt doesn't disqualify me; His blood QUALIFIES me.
The Father isn't grading your faith level or waiting for you to hit 100% certainty. He caught Peter mid-doubt and healed the father's son mid-confession of unbelief. Your tiny mustard seed faith in a MASSIVE God is MORE than enough.
