"My kids struggle because I chose the wrong father for them."
How it sounds in your head: You married the wrong man. You knew the red flags but ignored them. Now your children carry the wounds of his addiction, his abuse, his absence. Your poor choice in a husband sentenced them to a dysfunctional childhood they can never recover from.
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
-- Romans 8:28Condemnation that makes your relationship choice into their permanent curse, denying God's redemptive power.
You can see the direct line from his behavior to their struggles. The divorce, the dysfunction, the damage—it all traces back to your choice to marry him. If you'd chosen differently, their lives would be different.
She was widowed twice, denied her rightful husband, then tricked her father-in-law into sleeping with her thinking she was a prostitute. The most dysfunctional family situation imaginable. Yet her twins are in the messianic line—Perez becomes David's ancestor and Jesus' lineage.
I REFUSE the lie that my choice of their father determined their destiny beyond God's redemptive reach. IT IS WRITTEN that ALL things work together for good—including that marriage, that man, that dysfunction. My mistake does NOT override God's purposes in my children. IT IS WRITTEN in Jeremiah 29:11 - 'For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.' HIS thoughts toward my children are PEACE and HOPE, regardless of their father. The BARAK blessing covers them. The Father is already turning their pain into purpose, their dysfunction into destiny.
The Father has already been redeeming every moment of their childhood—yes, even the worst moments with their father—weaving it into a story of breakthrough that will astound you. He's not limited by your choice of husband; He's been working around, through, and despite that choice since before they were born.
