"My intrusive thoughts mean I'm not really saved or I'm going to hell"
How it sounds in your head: Horrible thoughts pop into my head that I don't want - violent, sexual, blasphemous. I must be evil inside. Maybe the enemy has access because I'm not really saved. Maybe these thoughts prove I'm secretly wicked and going to hell. I'm terrified to tell anyone what goes through my mind.
"For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me."
-- Romans 7:19-20Accuser spirit making her judge salvation by involuntary thoughts instead of covenant position, weaponizing brain chemistry and OCD patterns into evidence for damnation rather than seeing security in Jesus's grip.
The thoughts feel so real and disturbing that they must mean something about her character. She's been taught that sin starts in the mind, so intrusive thoughts feel like proof of hidden evil. The shame spiral makes her question if she ever really believed at all.
Peter literally spoke Satan's words to Jesus - 'Far be it from You, Lord' - and Jesus said 'Get behind Me, Satan.' Peter had the enemy's thoughts come through his mouth, yet Jesus still called him the rock, still restored him, still used him mightily.
I REFUSE the lie that intrusive thoughts define my salvation. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 7 that even Paul experienced doing what he didn't want to do - the battle is NORMAL, not evidence of being unsaved. My thoughts do NOT determine my security. IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:28 that NO ONE can snatch me from Jesus's hand - not even my own brain. I am sealed by the Holy Spirit by FAITH, not by thought purity. The BARAK blessing over me doesn't fluctuate with my mental patterns. Peter spoke Satan's own words yet was still called the rock. I am HELD by Jesus's grip, SECURED by His blood, LOVED through every unwanted thought.
Father sees the thoughts that torment you and doesn't recoil - He knows they aren't YOU. He's holding you through the mental storm, whispering 'still My daughter, still secure, still sealed' over every intrusive image or blasphemous thought that horrifies you.
