"It's selfish to want healing when I'm 86; I should just accept God's will to die."
How it sounds in your head: I've lived a long life. Other people need healing more than I do. Praying for healing at my age feels greedy, like I'm not content with what God has given. Maybe this sickness is His way of taking me home, and fighting it means I'm resisting His will.
"I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the Lord."
-- Psalm 118:17Religious passivity teaching disguised as surrender, making her believe that wanting life and health at her age is somehow less spiritual than accepting death.
Church culture often spiritualizes death in the elderly, making any desire for healing seem like lack of faith in God's timing. She's heard 'their time has come' so many times that wanting more years feels like greed.
Hezekiah was sick and dying. The prophet said 'set your house in order, you will die.' Hezekiah wept and prayed. God immediately sent Isaiah back with the answer: 'I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you... I will add to your days fifteen years.'
I REFUSE the lie that wanting healing is selfish. IT IS WRITTEN that I shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. Jesus came to give me abundant life, not just existence, and that promise has no expiration date. I am Abraham's seed, covered by the BARAK blessing that includes health and long life. IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I was healed, and that healing is mine right now. God added 15 years to Hezekiah's life when he wept and prayed—my tears and prayers matter just as much. I receive healing as my covenant right, declaring life over my body because the Father delights in giving me good gifts.
The Father isn't waiting for you to 'accept death gracefully'—He's the God of the living, not the dead. He's running toward you with healing in His hands, delighting in every year you're alive, celebrating your desire for more time because you are His beloved daughter and He loves having you here.
