"My identity and worth are tied to my ministry title—without it, I'm nobody."
How it sounds in your head: You're 'Pastor' or 'Leader'—that's who you ARE. Strip away the title and platform and what's left? Just another middle-aged guy with no special significance. Your worth walks in when you walk on stage and leaves when you walk off.
"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."
-- Galatians 2:20The world taught you identity comes from what you DO, and religion baptized that lie by making ministry your measure of value to God.
People treat you differently because of your title, and you've watched leaders lose their identity when they retired or were removed. At this age, career IS identity for most men, and ministry feels even more sacred.
When John's disciples panicked that Jesus was baptizing more people and John's ministry was decreasing, John said a man can receive NOTHING unless it's given from heaven—He must increase, I must decrease. John's identity wasn't his platform; he knew who he was WITH or WITHOUT the crowds.
I REFUSE the lie that my worth is my ministry role. IT IS WRITTEN that I've been crucified with Christ and it's no longer I who live, but CHRIST who lives in me. My identity is CHRIST IN ME—not my title, not my platform, not my influence. I am a SON before I'm a servant, BELOVED before I'm useful. IT IS WRITTEN my life is hidden with Christ in God, secured in Him regardless of role or recognition. The BARAK blessing is on ME as Abraham's seed in Christ—not on my performance or position. I am who HE says I am, and that identity can never be taken away.
Father isn't looking at your business card—He's looking at His Son's blood covering you. You're His beloved son in whom He's well pleased BEFORE you do a single thing, and that pleasure doesn't fluctuate with attendance numbers.
