"My hearing loss and other limitations make me a burden to everyone around me."
How it sounds in your head: You see it in their eyes when they have to repeat themselves. Your wife is exhausted from being your translator. Your kids talk slower and louder like you're a child. You can't follow conversations in groups anymore. You're not contributing—you're draining. Everyone would have an easier time without you.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Enemy lie rooted in shame and self-condemnation, measuring worth by independence instead of covenant identity.
You DO need more help than you used to. People DO have to accommodate you. You've gone from provider to dependent in some ways, and it's humiliating. You see the patience wearing thin, the sighs, the frustration. The evidence seems overwhelming that you're more burden than blessing.
Mephibosheth was crippled in both feet, completely dependent on others, hiding in shame. King David sought him out, restored ALL of Saul's land to him, gave him a place at the king's table PERMANENTLY, and treated him like a son. Not because of what Mephibosheth could do, but because of COVENANT with his father Jonathan.
I REFUSE the lie that my limitations make me a burden. IT IS WRITTEN that God's strength is made PERFECT in my weakness, not despite it but THROUGH it. I am not defined by what I've lost but by WHO I belong to. IT IS WRITTEN that even to gray hairs, God will carry ME—I'm not the burden; I'm the CARRIED. The BARAK blessing of Abraham is mine—I am blessed, not cursed; favored, not tolerated. My value is in my POSITION as a son, not my performance as a provider. I have a seat at the King's table by COVENANT, and nothing can remove me from it.
The Father doesn't see your hearing loss as a burden—He sees a son He delights in, a man whose identity was never in perfect hearing but in perfect SONSHIP. Like He ran to the prodigal covered in pig-stench, He runs to you with limitations and all, shouting 'This is MY SON in whom I am well pleased.'
