"My generation's music, culture, and preferences no longer matter"
How it sounds in your head: Church worship is all Bethel and Elevation now. Pop culture moved on to sounds I don't recognize. My formative references are nostalgic throwbacks, not current conversation. I'm culturally irrelevant.
"Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ."
-- Colossians 2:8World system lie that cultural relevance requires conformity to the newest trends
Radio stations call his music 'throwback.' Worship sets feature songs written after he graduated. Memes reference shows he's never seen. The cultural conversation moved on without asking his input.
John wore camel hair, ate locusts, and lived in the wilderness - completely out of step with Jerusalem's cultural sophistication. Jesus called him the greatest born of women. Cultural conformity wasn't required for massive Kingdom impact - obedience to calling was.
I REFUSE the lie that my cultural references determine my value. IT IS WRITTEN to beware of philosophy and empty deceit according to the world's basic principles - trend worship is exactly that. I carry timeless Kingdom truth that doesn't expire when the cultural conversation shifts. IT IS WRITTEN that there is no condemnation for those in Christ - which means I am free from the condemnation of not being 'current.' I declare that my preferences, my music, and my cultural formation carry validity independent of trend cycles. I am not chasing relevance; I am walking in eternal identity.
The Father isn't rolling His eyes at your Spotify throwbacks - He's celebrating that you're not enslaved to cultural approval. Like He celebrated John the Baptist's wilderness wardrobe while calling him the greatest, He celebrates your authenticity over your trendiness.
