"My family's history of abuse means I'll never feel safe in relationships"
How it sounds in your head: Dad hurt Mom. Grandpa hurt Grandma. Uncle hurt Aunt. I've seen women in my family accept abuse like it's normal. I don't trust men, I don't trust my own judgment, and I'm terrified I'll end up like them.
"I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety."
-- Psalm 4:8Trauma: Past violence creates a lens where danger feels inevitable, making fear your protection instead of God's presence
She's witnessed actual violence. Her nervous system is trained to expect danger. Therapists call it 'hypervigilance' and frame it as wisdom. Her fear feels like survival, not a lie.
Married to Nabal, a violent, abusive fool. She lived in fear daily. Then God KILLED Nabal (v.38), and David immediately asked her to marry him. From abusive marriage to king's wife in DAYS. She didn't have to 'heal for years'—God moved instantly.
I REFUSE the lie that my family's abuse means I'll never feel safe. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord ALONE makes me dwell in safety—my safety is His nature, not my circumstances. My family's violence was not deposited into my future. I am not destined to repeat their story. IT IS WRITTEN that I am kept by the power of God, that He is my refuge and fortress, that no weapon formed against me will prosper. I am Abraham's seed, blessed in my relationships, protected by the BARAK. My family's trauma ends at the cross. I am SAFE in Him.
The Father doesn't see you as 'damaged goods from a violent home'—He sees you as His BELOVED DAUGHTER He's jealously protecting. While you're still afraid of relationships, He's already surrounding you with His safety, running toward you declaring you SECURE in His love.
