"My dad abandoned us, so I'll probably abandon my kids too."
How it sounds in your head: I don't even know what a good father looks like. What if I get overwhelmed and just leave like he did? I already feel like running when things get hard. Maybe it's better if I never have kids—I'd just mess them up.
"For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
-- Hebrews 13:5Enemy using father wound to create prophetic abandonment identity, denying adoption into faithful Father's nature.
Abandonment is his only fatherhood reference point, and when stress hits, his first impulse IS to flee—exactly like his dad. The feeling of being overwhelmed 'proves' he's wired the same way.
Joseph discovered his fiancée was pregnant—not his child, socially devastating, legally justified to abandon her. Instead, he STAYED, protected Mary, raised Jesus as his own, gave his name to a child who wasn't biologically his. Instant decision to be faithful when everything screamed 'run.'
I REFUSE the lie that my father's abandonment determines my faithfulness. IT IS WRITTEN that I have received the Spirit of ADOPTION—I carry the nature of the Father who NEVER leaves. My capacity to stay comes from the VINE, not from my upbringing. The BARAK blessing covered Jacob's dysfunctional family and still produced faithful fathers in his line. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 27:10, 'When my father and mother forsake me, then the LORD will take care of me.' He's already taken care of me by giving me HIS nature. I am a faithful father NOW.
The Father doesn't see you as abandonment waiting to happen—He sees you as the faithful dad who stays, because that's WHO YOU ARE in Him. While you're disqualifying yourself based on your dad's failure, God is running toward you with the robe of faithful fatherhood, celebrating the man you already are.
