"My cultural expressions of faith are less authentic than Western evangelical worship styles."
How it sounds in your head: Your worship is louder, longer, more expressive—but you've gotten the looks at multicultural services. Your church calls it 'ethnic ministry' like it's a subset of 'real' church. The preaching style from your background is called 'too emotional' while white preachers get called 'passionate.' You've spent decades wondering if your worship is less mature or theologically sound because it doesn't look like the mainstream church.
"Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals!"
-- Psalm 150:3-5Source: Cultural imperialism disguised as theology, and the enemy's strategy to make you question the validity of your authentic worship expression.
You've been corrected, asked to 'tone it down,' or had your worship style relegated to special services. The seminary-trained pastors worship quietly; yours shout and dance. The subtle messaging is constant: Western reserved = mature, your expressive worship = immature or suspect.
After the Red Sea deliverance, Miriam (a woman and ethnic Hebrew) led DANCING with tambourines and singing in what was likely loud, expressive, physical worship—this is RECORDED SCRIPTURE, not corrected behavior. God memorialized her worship style in His Word as a model, not a problem. Expressive ethnic worship was the BIBLICAL baseline.
I REFUSE the lie that my cultural worship is less authentic. IT IS WRITTEN to praise Him with LOUD cymbals, with DANCING, with expressive instruments—my worship style is BIBLICAL, not immature. Western reserved worship is one cultural expression, not the gold standard. The Father receives my loud shouts, my long prayers, my physical expression as ACCEPTABLE worship. IT IS WRITTEN in John 4:23-24 that the Father seeks those who worship in spirit and truth—not in cultural uniformity. David danced with ALL HIS MIGHT, and God honored it. I will not muzzle my worship to fit Western sensibilities. I carry the BARAK blessing—the same blessing that was celebrated with DANCING when Isaac was born, that was expressed with SHOUTING when the walls of Jericho fell, that was demonstrated with LOUD praise when the temple was dedicated.
The Father is running toward you with a tambourine in one hand and a crown in the other—He's saying, 'Your worship has been making Hell TREMBLE and Heaven DANCE, and I've been turning up the volume every time religion tried to turn it down.' He's about to release your authentic worship in spaces that tried to silence it, and the religious people will have to choose between their comfort and My presence.
