"My child's rebellion proves I didn't train them up right according to Proverbs 22:6."
How it sounds in your head: The verse says if you train them properly they won't depart. She departed. Therefore you must have trained her wrong. Every church mother with obedient kids is living proof you failed the biblical parenting test.
"I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase."
-- 1 Corinthians 3:6-7Religious weaponizing of Proverbs as guarantee instead of wisdom principle, turning parenting into performance.
It's right there in black and white—train up a child and they won't depart. She departed. The math seems simple: you didn't train her up correctly or she wouldn't have left.
God Himself says 'I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me.' The PERFECT parent with perfect truth had rebellious children—rebellion is not proof of parenting failure.
I REFUSE the lie that my child's rebellion proves I failed at training. IT IS WRITTEN that I plant, I water, but GOD gives the increase. I am not God—I cannot control my child's free will. Even the Father in heaven had rebellious children He raised perfectly. IT IS WRITTEN that God nourished and brought up children who rebelled. My job was to plant truth and water with love. God's job is the harvest. I release the outcome to Him and refuse false guilt from weaponized Scripture.
The Father sees you as a faithful planter who did your best with what you knew, and He's not grading you on your child's current choices. He's actively working in your child's life right now, watering seeds you planted years ago that are about to break through soil.
