"My body is the enemy and must be controlled and punished."
How it sounds in your head: You view your appetite as sinful and your body as rebellious. You punish yourself with brutal workouts after eating. You fast not to draw near God but to punish your flesh. Your body is a problem to be dominated, not a gift to be stewarded.
"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."
-- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20Religion: Gnostic heresy that body is evil and spirit is good; religious teaching that flesh must be 'crucified' through punishment.
You've heard sermons about 'crucifying the flesh' and 'the spirit wars against the flesh.' Your body's desires have led you into sin before. Control feels spiritual and surrender feels dangerous. Punishment feels like righteousness.
Jesus could have said 'Fast and pray, crucify your hunger.' Instead, He multiplied bread and fish to feed PHYSICAL hunger. He didn't spiritualize away bodily needs—He met them with ABUNDANCE. INSTANTLY, five loaves became enough for thousands with twelve baskets left over.
I REFUSE the lie that my body is the enemy. IT IS WRITTEN that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, sacred and holy because GOD DWELLS HERE. I will not punish what God calls His temple. My body is not rebellious flesh to be crucified—it's a vessel of honor, bought with the precious blood of Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and God doesn't call His workmanship evil. The BARAK blessing rests upon my physical body—I am blessed coming in and going out, blessed in the work of my hands. I honor my body as God's dwelling place with kindness, nourishment, and rest.
The Father isn't calling you to beat your body into submission. He's inviting you to treat His temple with the same tenderness He does. He's not waiting for you to prove your body is under control—He's already declared it HOLY because His Spirit lives there. He feeds you, rests you, and loves every part of you because you're His HOME.
