"My body has betrayed me—I can't even control basic functions anymore, and that's disgusting."
How it sounds in your head: Incontinence. Catheter. Diapers. Functions you controlled since age two are now handled by strangers. You've regressed to infancy. The humiliation is crushing. This isn't how men are supposed to end.
"Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you."
-- Isaiah 46:4Pride-fueled shame weaponizing natural physical decline to attack identity and separate from comfort and community.
The loss of control is LITERAL and daily. You can't hide it. Caregivers know. The smell, the cleanup, the reality. Dignity feels completely stripped.
In his old age, diseased in his feet, exceedingly severe condition requiring constant care. Scripture records his physical decline without shame or condemnation. God didn't love him less or distance Himself because Asa needed help with basic mobility and bodily functions.
I REFUSE the lie that my body's dependence makes me disgusting or betrayed. IT IS WRITTEN that even to gray hairs, God will CARRY me—He made me and He will BEAR me. I am not disgusting. I am CARRIED. Jesus washed feet and isn't repulsed by bodies that need care. IT IS WRITTEN that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, EVEN in decline, even in dependence. My caregivers' hands are GOD'S hands. Their service to me is service to JESUS Himself. I receive their help without shame because shame has NO PLACE in the Father's house. I am LOVED in every vulnerable moment.
The Father sees a beloved son being carried HOME, not a disgusting burden. He's whispering to every caregiver, 'Thank you for touching My boy so tenderly.' He wastes no intimacy—every diaper change is recorded as worship in Heaven.
