"My body changing and hormones being crazy means something is wrong with me."
How it sounds in your head: I feel like a stranger in my own skin. My emotions are all over the place, my body feels weird, and I can't tell what's normal anymore. Am I broken?
"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well."
-- Psalm 139:13-14Source: World's silence around puberty creating shame, plus enemy using natural development as proof of defectiveness.
Puberty is rarely discussed openly in church, so she has no framework for what's happening. The intensity of physical and emotional changes feels chaotic, and without context, chaos feels like something must be wrong.
Scripture says Samuel 'grew in stature and in favor with the LORD and men'—he went through physical growth and development while simultaneously growing spiritually. God didn't pause His calling until Samuel was done growing; growth WAS part of the calling.
I REFUSE the lie that my changing body is a problem. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and that includes every stage of development. My hormones are not a mistake; they're part of the design God formed in my mother's womb. IT IS WRITTEN that His works are marvelous, and that includes the work He's doing in my body right now. I am the righteousness of God in Christ through every growth spurt, every mood swing, every awkward phase. The BARAK blessing covers my physical body—I am blessed in this skin, in this season, in this moment.
The Father isn't waiting for your body to settle down before He delights in you; He's delighting in you NOW, growth and all. He designed every stage of your development and calls it wonderfully made.
