"My ancestors' racism and hatred mean I'll struggle with prejudice forever too."
How it sounds in your head: My family has said awful things about other races. I've heard it my whole life. Sometimes those thoughts pop into my head and I hate it. Maybe I'm just infected with their hatred.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
-- Galatians 3:28Source: social conditioning mixed with guilt that makes learned behavior feel like inescapable curse.
He's been exposed to racist comments and attitudes his whole childhood. When similar thoughts arise, he feels powerless against what seems like inherited sin he can't escape.
Peter was raised with deep Jewish prejudice against Gentiles - called them 'unclean' his whole life. God gave him ONE vision and INSTANTLY transformed his thinking. He immediately went and ate with Gentiles, declaring 'God shows no partiality.'
I REFUSE the lie that my family's racism defines my thinking. IT IS WRITTEN that in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek - we are all one. I have the MIND OF CHRIST who sees all people as image-bearers of God. IT IS WRITTEN that I am being transformed by the renewing of my mind, and God's Word is renewing me right now. The BARAK blessing includes being a blessing to ALL nations. I am not trapped in my family's prejudice - I am free to love as Christ loved. My thoughts are under the authority of God's Word, not my family's conditioning.
Father is running toward you with new eyes, new thoughts, and new love - not waiting for you to purge every bad thought first. He's declaring 'YOU HAVE MY MIND' while you're still unlearning their hatred.
