"Mental illness runs in my family. Depression is my genetic sentence. I inherited this broken brain chemistry."
How it sounds in your head: My mom's on antidepressants. Her mom was institutionalized. My uncle committed suicide. The doctor said it's genetic—my brain just doesn't make enough serotonin. This is biology, not spiritual. I'm chemically cursed.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5Source: Medical materialism denies spiritual authority over the body; religion agrees by separating 'physical' from 'spiritual.'
Multiple family members have diagnoses. Doctors show him brain scan studies and genetic markers. The depression feels PHYSICAL—fatigue, fog, numbness. It seems more scientific than spiritual, more genetic than choice. Calling it a curse feels anti-science.
A man so tormented he lived naked in tombs, cutting himself, screaming day and night—untreatable, unchainable, given up as hopeless by everyone. One encounter with Jesus and he was found 'sitting and clothed and in his right mind'—instant healing of what looked like permanent insanity.
I REFUSE the lie that my grandmother's depression is my destiny. IT IS WRITTEN: By His stripes I AM healed—present tense, finished work. My brain chemistry bows to the blood of Jesus. Mental illness is not my genetic inheritance—WHOLENESS is. IT IS WRITTEN: God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a SOUND MIND. The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in me—depression has no authority over resurrection life. I am not my diagnosis. I am HIS.
The Father sees you like the Gadarene—not as the demons define you but as the SON you are. He's running toward you with the ROBE of right mind, not waiting for you to 'get better first.' The same Jesus who instantly healed hopeless insanity is speaking 'Peace, be still' over the mental storm you think is genetic.
