"Medical science is my only real hope; God heals but medicine is how He does it."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone at church says 'God works through doctors,' like He needs their permission to move. My youth pastor said to trust the treatment plan. My mom keeps saying 'modern medicine is a gift from God.' It feels more spiritual to thank God for the chemo than to ask Him to just HEAL me without it. Like maybe expecting a miracle is immature faith, and accepting medical limitations is grown-up faith.
"Thus says the Lord: 'Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord.'"
-- Jeremiah 17:5Source: Religious compromise that makes God's direct power seem irresponsible or naive, requiring human methods to 'complete' what God can't do alone.
She's watched people die who prayed for healing, and watched people survive who did chemo. The tangible treatment plan feels safer than invisible faith. Her parents are arguing about whether to try experimental treatments, and everyone seems to think she's being wise when she agrees to the doctor's plan, but crazy when she talks about supernatural healing.
She had suffered TWELVE YEARS under many physicians, spent ALL her money on medical treatments, and instead of getting better, she 'grew worse.' The entire medical system of her day had FAILED her and bankrupted her. One touch of Jesus' garment, and IMMEDIATELY the fountain of her blood dried up and she FELT in her body that she was healed—no prescription, no procedure, just POWER.
I REFUSE the lie that I must choose between medical science and God's power, as if He's too weak to heal without human help. IT IS WRITTEN that cursed is the one who trusts in MAN and makes flesh their strength. My trust is in Jehovah Rapha, the God who healed the woman physicians made WORSE, who raised Lazarus when he'd been dead FOUR DAYS, who created my body from dust and can certainly fix what's broken. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 103:3 that He forgives ALL my sins and heals ALL my diseases—not some, not with help, ALL. I am a daughter of the BARAK, blessed coming in and going out, blessed in my body, walking in the health Abraham's seed inherited through Christ.
The Father isn't offended that she's scared or that she went to doctors—He's just heartbroken that she thinks He NEEDS them to accomplish what His Word already promised. He's running toward her with healing in His wings, not waiting for her to reject medicine or prove her faith is 'strong enough'—He's just ready to be her SOURCE.
