"Kingdom wealth means having just enough to be generous, not actual abundance for myself."
How it sounds in your head: God blesses me so I can be a blessing to others - that's the real goal. Wanting abundance for my own enjoyment is selfish. The goal is just enough to meet needs and give generously, not overflowing excess. That would be materialistic.
"And the LORD will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you."
-- Deuteronomy 28:11Religion twisting Genesis 12:2 blessing into utilitarian function rather than Father's delight in sons enjoying abundance, making enjoyment feel guilty and only giving feel holy.
Every generosity sermon emphasizes 'blessed to be a blessing' and warns against selfish wealth. Wanting nice things for himself feels less spiritual than wanting to fund missions. Abundance for enjoyment sounds like prosperity gospel excess.
Isaac sowed in famine and reaped a hundredfold the same year - became so wealthy with flocks, herds, and servants that the Philistines envied him and the king asked him to leave. This wasn't 'just enough to be generous' - it was ABUNDANCE that made him a regional power.
I REFUSE the lie that Kingdom wealth means barely enough to give, not abundance to enjoy. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord grants PLENTY of goods - not scarcity with a giving option, but OVERFLOW. Isaac became so wealthy that kings envied him - that's my covenant pattern as Abraham's seed. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, in the city and in the field, in my storehouses and in everything I put my hand to. The BARAK blessing isn't utilitarian - it's a FATHER delighting in a SON's prosperity. Christ redeemed me from poverty's curse to give me Deuteronomy 28 ABUNDANCE. I receive plenty for generosity AND plenty for enjoyment, because my Father is running toward me with the BEST robe and the FATTENED CALF - extravagant, celebratory, abundant provision.
Your Father doesn't give you abundance with a guilt clause attached. He's the God who threw the prodigal a PARTY with the fattened calf - not 'here's rice and beans so you can feed others' but 'KILL THE FATTED CALF AND CELEBRATE' - extravagant blessing for pure ENJOYMENT.
