"Keeping walls up is the only way to protect myself from this kind of pain again."
How it sounds in your head: You've built an entire architecture of self-protection—surface friendships, emotional distance, never sharing the real stuff. It feels like wisdom, like you've finally learned the lesson. But deep down you know you're dying of loneliness while congratulating yourself on being safe.
"Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death, jealousy as cruel as the grave; its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, nor can the floods drown it."
-- Song of Solomon 8:6-7Enemy's counterfeit wisdom that trades connection for control, making isolation feel like strength.
The walls actually do prevent certain kinds of pain—you can't be betrayed if no one gets close. But you're also starving for intimacy, watching everyone else do life together while you're behind glass, safe and suffocating.
Peter betrayed Jesus three times, denying he even knew Him. Jesus didn't build walls or require probation—He IMMEDIATELY restored Peter by the fire, asked him three times about love, and gave him the keys to the church. Instant trust restoration despite ultimate personal betrayal.
I REFUSE the lie that walls protect me. IT IS WRITTEN that love is as STRONG as death and many waters CANNOT quench it. My heart is not fragile—it is FIREPROOF, flood-proof, resurrection-powered. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 34:18 that the Lord is NEAR to the brokenhearted, not distant. Walls don't protect me—they SEPARATE me from the One who actually heals. I am tearing down self-protection and RECEIVING the Father's protection instead. Under the BARAK blessing, I am HEDGED IN by God, not by my own isolation.
Your Father is not impressed with your walls—He's grieved that you're protecting yourself from the very intimacy He's offering. He's already on the inside of every wall you've built, waiting for you to realize He never left, and the safety you're craving is found IN Him, not away from people.
