"I've prayed for healing so many times. God must want me to have this pain for a reason."
How it sounds in your head: If God was going to heal you, He would have by now. All those prayers, all that faith—nothing changed. Maybe this is His will for you. Maybe you're supposed to 'bear your cross' and stop asking. Other people get miracles; you get character-building suffering.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning."
-- James 1:17Religious teaching that God authors sickness to build character, making Him the source of affliction rather than the Healer.
Unanswered prayers create the impression that God has deliberately chosen 'no' for you specifically. Religious teaching about 'God's purposes in suffering' provides theological justification for continued pain.
Invalid for thirty-eight years—not days, not months, DECADES of waiting by that pool with no improvement. Jesus didn't ask how much he'd learned from suffering or if he'd grown spiritually; He said 'Rise, take up your bed and walk,' and IMMEDIATELY the man was made well.
I REFUSE the lie that God authors my pain. IT IS WRITTEN that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights—sickness is neither good nor perfect, so it's NOT from Him. My Father doesn't give me a stone when I ask for bread or a serpent when I ask for fish. Jesus bore my sicknesses and carried my pains; He didn't give them to me. I am covered by the BARAK blessing—the same covenant that protected and healed Israel even when they sinned. IT IS WRITTEN in Exodus 15:26 that He is the LORD who heals me—that's His NAME, His nature, His unchanging identity. I receive healing NOW as my covenant inheritance, not because I've prayed perfectly but because Jesus paid completely.
The Father isn't testing your endurance through pain. He's the one who sent His Word and healed them (Psalm 107:20)—He's already released the healing; it's not stuck in heaven waiting for the right moment. He's running toward you with the robe of health, not making you prove you've suffered enough.
