"I've disappointed God so much that He's given up on me."
How it sounds in your head: I keep making the same mistakes. God probably doesn't even listen to my prayers anymore. He's moved on to kids who actually follow through.
"The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: 'Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.'"
-- Jeremiah 31:3Projection of human abandonment patterns onto God; religious teaching of exhausted divine patience.
Adults in their lives show frustration when they repeat mistakes. They assume God operates the same way, with limited patience that eventually runs out.
Israel grumbled, complained, built a golden calf, and rebelled repeatedly for 40 years. God didn't abandon them—He continued providing manna daily, keeping their clothes from wearing out, and protecting them every single day.
I REFUSE the lie that God has given up on me. IT IS WRITTEN that He loves me with an EVERLASTING love and draws me with lovingkindness. God doesn't abandon His children. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 13:5 that He will NEVER leave me nor forsake me. His patience doesn't run out because His love never fails. I am sealed with the Holy Spirit, and nothing can snatch me from His hand. The barak blessing is COVENANT—it doesn't depend on my perfection. God isn't moving on; He's moving toward me.
Your Father isn't giving up—He's running toward you every single time. His love doesn't decrease when you fail; it's everlasting, which means it's the same strength forever.
