"I've confessed to God, but I still need to confess to everyone I hurt first."
How it sounds in your head: There's a list in my head—people I wronged decades ago. Coworkers I betrayed. A woman I had an affair with. Business partners I cheated. Until I track them all down and make it right, I'm not fully forgiven. God may have forgiven me, but I owe them closure.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."

He's heard it his whole life—make amends, do the 12 steps, seek closure. It feels responsible and thorough. Plus, tracking people down gives him a project, a way to DO something instead of just receiving. Action feels more trustworthy than grace.
Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector who had defrauded hundreds, maybe thousands of people. Jesus declared 'TODAY salvation has come to this house' BEFORE Zacchaeus made a single repayment. The restitution came FROM salvation, not FOR salvation. Jesus didn't hand him a list and say 'get back to me when you're done.' He celebrated him instantly.
I REFUSE the lie that human approval completes divine forgiveness. IT IS WRITTEN: He has forgiven me ALL trespasses, nailing the list to the cross. My forgiveness is not pending an amends tour. I am clean NOW by the blood of Jesus. If making amends is wise, I'll do it FROM freedom, not FOR freedom. IT IS WRITTEN: there is no condemnation. I am not waiting for closure from people who may not even remember what I did. The Father has declared me righteous, and that settles it. I walk in the BARAK of Abraham—blessed, favored, and free.
The Father is not holding a clipboard, waiting for you to check off every person you wronged. He threw the list in the fire the moment Jesus said 'It is finished.' If making amends brings healing, do it from freedom. But you're not earning forgiveness—you're already drenched in it.
