"I'm too old now. The good years are behind me. God uses younger men with energy and relevance."
How it sounds in your head: Church programs want the younger generation. My opinions feel outdated. Grandkids are polite but don't really want my advice. I had my season—now I'm just waiting to die. God's done with my usefulness.
"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."
-- Psalm 92:12-14Culture worships youth and productivity, making aging feel like divine dismissal from purpose and value.
He's invisible in stores, irrelevant in conversations, passed over for leadership. Church focuses on 'next generation.' Every retirement community ad reinforces: your active contribution is over, now just wait comfortably for death. Feels like God moved on to younger models.
Caleb was 85 YEARS OLD when he said 'I am as strong today as I was forty years ago... Now give me this mountain!' God gave it to him. He conquered giants and claimed his inheritance at an age most men are in nursing homes. His best conquest came in his 80s.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too old for God to use. IT IS WRITTEN that the righteous shall STILL bear fruit in old age, fresh and flourishing. Caleb conquered giants at 85. Abraham received his promise at 100. Moses began his greatest work at 80. Age doesn't disqualify me from God's purposes. IT IS WRITTEN that God's gifts and calling are irrevocable—He didn't retire me when I hit 70. The BARAK blessing doesn't expire with age—it increased as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob grew older. I am planted in the house of the Lord and I SHALL flourish. My best fruit may still be ahead. God isn't done with me—He's preparing me for fresh works that only this season can produce.
The Father is saying: 'Son, the world dismisses the aged, but I celebrate them. Your seventies aren't the end—they're the season of greatest wisdom, deepest intimacy, most powerful fruit. Caleb's mountain came at 85. Your greatest assignments may be just ahead. I'm not putting you out to pasture—I'm positioning you for legacy harvest.'
