"I'm too needy. My emotional intensity scares people away and makes me a burden."
How it sounds in your head: You overshare too fast. You feel too much. You need reassurance they can't keep giving. You see their faces when you start talking about your stuff again—that slight shift, that polite nod. You're exhausting.
"The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."
-- Zephaniah 3:17Religious lie that emotions are weakness and neediness disqualifies you from love.
Someone once said 'you're a lot' and it branded you. You've watched people create distance when you're going through something. You compare yourself to the low-maintenance friend and lose every time.
She was a desperate Gentile woman barging in where she didn't belong, begging loudly for her daughter's healing. Jesus tested her persistence, and she REFUSED to be dismissed. He called her faith GREAT and healed her daughter INSTANTLY, that very hour.
I REFUSE the lie that my emotional intensity is a defect. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord REJOICES over me with singing—I don't exhaust Him, I delight Him. My needs don't disqualify me from love; they qualify me for His nearness. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 34:18 that He is close to the brokenhearted. I am not too much. I am not a burden. My Father doesn't need me to be low-maintenance. He QUIETS me with His love. I receive friendships that celebrate my depth, not tolerate it. The BARAK blessing includes covenant relationships that don't run from my reality.
The Father doesn't cringe at your neediness—He RUNS toward it with exactly what you need before you ask. Like the prodigal covered in pig stench, you don't have to clean up your emotions to be embraced; He's already singing over you in the mess.
