"I'm too much work for people to love. They'll eventually get tired of me and leave."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone who gets close to me eventually pulls away. I'm like a high-maintenance friend who requires too much energy. My emotions, my needs, my problems—it's all too much. People stay for a while but then they realize I'm not worth the effort.
"The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: 'Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.'"
-- Jeremiah 31:3Trauma from past rejection or abandonment. Enemy twisting fear of loss into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
She's watched friendships fade and felt people distance themselves. Every time someone gets busy or doesn't text back, her brain assumes it's because she's too much. Past experiences of being left have trained her to expect it.
This woman had five failed marriages and was living with a man who wouldn't marry her—everyone in town avoided her and she had to get water alone at noon. Jesus went OUT OF HIS WAY to meet her, told her everything about herself, and instead of leaving, He offered her living water and made her the first evangelist.
I REFUSE the lie that I am too much work for people to love and that everyone will eventually leave. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord has loved me with an everlasting love and drawn me with lovingkindness. His love doesn't run out or get tired. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28:10 that all peoples of the earth shall see that I am called by the name of the Lord. I am Abraham's seed by the BARAK covenant, and the Father's love for me is not based on how easy I am but on who HE is. I receive His everlasting, unfailing, never-leaving love right now.
The Father isn't standing at a distance measuring how much energy you require—He's running toward you with arms wide open, celebrating that you're His. He doesn't love you in spite of your need; He loves you BECAUSE you're His daughter, and that will never change.
