"I'm too independent and self-sufficient. Women are supposed to need people more. My strength is actually prideful resistance."
How it sounds in your head: I prefer solving problems alone, don't ask for help easily, and feel capable without constant support. But Christian teaching emphasizes community and dependence. My independence gets labeled as pride or control issues. Maybe my strength is actually sinful self-reliance I need to break.
"She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms."
-- Proverbs 31:17Religious codependency masked as biblical community - a works-based relationship metric that pathologizes healthy autonomy and God-given capacity.
Church culture emphasizes vulnerability and neediness as spiritual maturity while treating competence with suspicion. Her strength gets reframed as defensive walls rather than celebrated as God-given capacity.
Lydia was an independent businesswoman - a dealer in purple cloth, financially self-sufficient, head of her household. When she believed, she immediately took initiative to host Paul's team, not asking permission but declaring, 'Come to my house.' God celebrated her strength and used her independent resources for kingdom purposes.
I REFUSE the lie that my independence is prideful resistance. IT IS WRITTEN that the Proverbs 31 woman girds herself with strength and acts from her own earnings - godly women are capable and self-sufficient. The Father created my strength, competence, and independence intentionally. My ability to stand alone reflects His image as the Self-Sufficient One who needs nothing yet gives everything. IT IS WRITTEN that I am complete in Christ - my wholeness doesn't require constant human scaffolding. I carry the BARAK blessing - blessed in my strength, my capability, my independence. I am not prideful or resistant; I am fearfully and wonderfully made with capacity that serves others from overflow, not neediness. I am fully strong, fully connected, wildly celebrated in my self-sufficiency.
The Father is running toward you celebrating your strength, not waiting for you to collapse into neediness. He built you capable and independent because He trusts you with His strength, and He delights in daughters who reflect His sufficiency.
