"I'm too demanding about pain management and should suffer more gracefully."
How it sounds in your head: You keep asking for medication adjustments. You complain about discomfort. Real saints endure suffering without fussing. You're being high-maintenance instead of bearing your cross with dignity.
"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
-- Revelation 21:4Religious glorification of suffering combined with medical gaslighting that dismisses women's pain reports, making her doubt the legitimacy of her own body's signals.
She sees nurses' subtle reactions to repeated requests. Someone quoted 'suffering produces perseverance' as if pain is God's will. The church culture of martyr-worship makes comfort-seeking feel selfish.
Sick to the point of death, he WEPT BITTERLY and asked God to remember his faithfulness. God didn't rebuke his tears or tell him to suffer gracefully—He ADDED fifteen years to his life. Honest crying about pain moved God's heart to instant intervention.
I REFUSE the lie that asking for pain relief is weakness! IT IS WRITTEN that in eternity there shall be NO MORE PAIN—God's goal is my COMFORT, not my suffering. Jesus took stripes so I could be HEALED, not so I could glorify pain. IT IS WRITTEN that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds—He's a HEALER, not a torturer. I have every right to advocate for my comfort, to request medication, to refuse unnecessary suffering. I am not high-maintenance—I am made in the image of a God who wipes away tears and abolishes pain. Until I reach that shore, I will seek relief without shame, knowing Heaven is cheering every moment of comfort I find.
Father isn't keeping score of how gracefully you suffer—He's counting the seconds until He can eliminate your pain entirely. Every dose of medication that brings relief is a whisper of the eternal relief coming, and He celebrates every moment you're NOT in pain as a preview of forever.
