"I'm the sick friend now—that's my role in every group."
How it sounds in your head: I'm the one who cancels plans. The one who needs accommodations. The one everyone worries about. My friends define me by my limitations. I'm a burden with a name tag.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
-- Galatians 3:28Social identity theft—enemy assigning her a role (victim/patient) to eclipse her true role (friend/equal/warrior/joy-bringer).
She IS the one who cancels due to flare-ups. Friends DO ask about her health first. She DOES need special considerations. The evidence seems overwhelming that this is her designated role.
He was known as 'blind Bartimaeus'—literally introduced by his disability. Jesus healed him IMMEDIATELY, and suddenly he's just Bartimaeus, following Jesus—role changed from 'the blind guy' to disciple in one encounter.
I REFUSE the lie that 'sick friend' is my role. IT IS WRITTEN that I am ONE in Christ—not defined by limitations but by LIMITLESS resurrection life. I am not the burden; I am the BLESSING. I am not the patient; I am the PRESENCE-CARRIER. IT IS WRITTEN in Ephesians 2:10 that I am His workmanship, created for GOOD WORKS—not defined by sickness but by PURPOSE. The BARAK blessing makes me the head and not the tail, above and not beneath—I lead, I don't limp behind labeled. My friends don't get 'sick me'—they get LOVED, SEEN, and CARRIED by the me who carries Heaven's breath.
The Father sees you in your friend group and He doesn't see 'the sick one'—He sees the one carrying His glory, the one about to release a breakthrough testimony that changes everyone around you. He's running toward you with a robe that says HEALER, not patient.
