"I'm the placeholder people tolerate until someone better comes along."
How it sounds in your head: You're the 'for now' friend, the 'until I find someone' relationship, the job they take while looking for the real one. You're practice, not permanent. Training wheels, not the actual bike. You know you're temporary, and it makes you afraid to get comfortable anywhere.
"For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
-- Hebrews 13:5Source: Trauma from being left—patterns of people using you as a stepping stone, teaching you that you're never the destination.
You've been the rebound relationship. The friend people outgrow. The employee who trained your replacement. The roommate people leave for better situations. You've watched people move on to 'upgrades' enough times to know you're the warmup act, not the main event.
Gomer was a prostitute who left Hosea repeatedly, sold herself, ended up on the slave block—completely used up and disposable. Hosea BOUGHT HER BACK, redeemed her, said 'you are mine.' God told him to marry her as a picture of God's covenant with us—PERMANENT love for temporary people.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm a placeholder. IT IS WRITTEN that God will NEVER leave me nor forsake me—five negatives, permanent covenant, unbreakable promise. I am not temporary; I am SEALED. IT IS WRITTEN that nothing can separate me from the love of God—not height, depth, past, future, NOTHING. Like Gomer, even when I felt used up and sold out, God bought me back, called me His, made me PERMANENT. I carry the BARAK blessing—the covenant love that doesn't quit, doesn't upgrade, doesn't abandon. I am cherished, kept, and permanent.
While you brace for abandonment, the Father is running toward you with a contract written in blood—permanent, irrevocable, no escape clauses. He's not looking for someone better; He's celebrating that He FOUND you and you're never getting away.
