"I'm the guy people tolerate, not the guy they actually want around."
How it sounds in your head: I'm the backup friend. The one invited because it would be awkward not to. People are polite, but I'm never anyone's first choice.
"You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married."
-- Isaiah 62:4Spirit of rejection reinterpreting polite connection as pity and obligation.
You've been the last one picked, the one who found out about plans after the fact, or the one people seem relieved to leave. You feel the energy shift when you walk into a room.
A despised tax collector everyone avoided, so short he climbed a tree just to see Jesus from a distance. Jesus didn't tolerate him—He SOUGHT him, called him by name, and INVITED HIMSELF to Zacchaeus' house. Instant acceptance, not grudging tolerance.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm tolerated instead of wanted. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord DELIGHTS in me—I am Hephzibah, His delight. I am NOT forsaken or second-choice. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28:13 that I am the head and not the tail—I don't beg for inclusion; I CARRY the presence of God. The BARAK makes me DESIRED, not tolerated. People are drawn to me because Christ in me is irresistible.
The Father didn't reluctantly accept you. He RAN to you, threw a party for you, and put a ring on your finger before you could finish apologizing. You're not the backup son; you're the CELEBRATED son.
