"I'm responsible for everyone's spiritual growth and failures mean I failed."
How it sounds in your head: That girl you discipled is partying now. That guy you mentored walked away. If you were a better leader, they'd still be walking with God. Their choices reflect your inadequacy.
"Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul."
-- Ezekiel 3:19Enemy assigning you responsibility for outcomes only the Holy Spirit can produce, making you savior instead of servant.
You poured everything into people who left, and the pain feels like proof you didn't do enough. Leadership teachings make you feel responsible for others' choices.
After a hard teaching, 'many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.' JESUS—perfect in word, power, and love—watched MANY disciples LEAVE. He didn't chase them, didn't question His methods, didn't blame Himself. If Jesus couldn't keep everyone, you're not expected to either.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm responsible for others' spiritual choices. IT IS WRITTEN that my job is faithfulness, not conversion—people's response is between them and the Holy Spirit. I am a branch connected to the Vine, offering fruit freely, but I don't control who eats it. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO CONDEMNATION in Christ, so I reject shame for people who walked away. I declare the BARAK blessing over my ministry—blessed in the city and field, head not tail, REGARDLESS of who stays or goes. The blessing covered Abraham when his nephew LOT chose poorly and left, and Abraham was still blessed. I am loved by the Father for SHOWING UP, not for controlling outcomes, because daughters are celebrated for obedience, not perfection.
The Father sees you carrying guilt for choices you can't control, and He's cutting you free with the truth that you're not the savior—He is. The prodigal's father let him GO, didn't chase, didn't manipulate, and still had a party ready when he returned.
