"I'm powerless over this — I have a disease I can't control or cure."
How it sounds in your head: They told me I'm powerless. That this is a disease like diabetes, something I manage but never beat. I'll always be one moment away from losing everything.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
-- Philippians 4:13Half-truth from recovery culture: admits helplessness but stops short of Christ's POWER in you.
Step One says you're powerless, and it feels humble and honest to admit you can't do it alone. But it stops at powerless instead of pointing to the One who IS powerful.
Twelve years bleeding, spent all her money on physicians who made her worse, powerless and broke. One touch of Jesus' garment: IMMEDIATELY the flow stopped and she was healed — Jesus said her faith made her whole.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm powerless. IT IS WRITTEN I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I am not managing a disease; I am walking in RESURRECTION POWER. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in me. IT IS WRITTEN greater is He in me than he in the world. I am not white-knuckling through life — I am ABIDING in the Vine, and HE produces the fruit. I am not powerless. I am EMPOWERED by the Holy Spirit, covered by the BARAK blessing, walking in victory.
The Father doesn't see you as a sick patient managing symptoms for life. He sees you as His POWERFUL daughter, filled with the same Spirit that conquered the grave — you're not powerless, you're pregnant with resurrection life.
