"I'm only respected because people don't see the real me—the confused, insecure version I hide."
How it sounds in your head: They see your wins, your highlights, your good days. But you know the truth: the late-night spirals, the doubts that paralyze you, the moments you feel like a scared kid pretending to be a man. If they saw THAT version, respect would evaporate instantly.
"But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'"
-- 1 Samuel 16:7Shame-based identity that splits 'public self' from 'true self,' making authenticity feel like disqualification.
He curates his image carefully, showing only the competent side. The gap between who he presents and who he feels he is gets wider every day, and he's convinced the 'real him' is unacceptable.
Peter declared Jesus as Messiah, then denied Him three times, cursing and swearing he didn't know Him. Jesus didn't demote Peter or make him prove himself—He RESTORED him instantly by the fire, asked 'Do you love Me?' three times, and commissioned him to 'Feed My sheep.' Peter went from denier to foundation of the church in ONE CONVERSATION.
I REFUSE the lie that my real self disqualifies me from respect. IT IS WRITTEN that God looks at the heart, not the polished exterior. He sees my confusion, my insecurity, my late-night doubts—and still calls me BELOVED. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Like Peter, I've failed spectacularly, yet Jesus restores instantly and commissions powerfully. I don't earn respect through a perfect image; I walk in the BARAK blessing as Abraham's seed—favored by covenant, not performance. I am a branch in the Vine—my fruit comes from CONNECTION, not pretending. The Father runs toward the real me, not the curated version. My identity is GIFT, my righteousness is GIFT, and His delight in me is unchanging.
You're Peter—denied Jesus, cursed, swore you didn't know Him, then hid in shame. But Jesus didn't make you grovel or prove yourself. He cooked you BREAKFAST, restored you by the fire, and commissioned you in ONE CONVERSATION. The Father isn't waiting for the 'real you' to get better—He's running toward THAT version with the robe and ring.
