"I'm not strong enough, smart enough, or cool enough to be valuable."
How it sounds in your head: The other guys are taller, faster, smarter. You're always picked last in gym class. Even your voice sounds weird compared to theirs. Nobody notices you except to make fun of you.
"But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'"
-- 1 Samuel 16:7Enemy attacking identity before it's fully formed, using comparison as weapon during vulnerable transition from boy to young man.
His body is changing unpredictably—some friends hit growth spurts while he hasn't, voices are cracking at different times, athletic abilities vary wildly. Social hierarchy at school constantly reinforces who's 'cool' and who isn't, and he's hyper-aware of where he falls in that ranking.
Gideon called himself the LEAST in the weakest family, hiding in a winepress terrified. God called him 'MIGHTY WARRIOR' BEFORE he did anything, then used him to defeat an entire army with 300 men that same season—instant identity shift from coward to conqueror.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm not enough. IT IS WRITTEN that God does not see as man sees—He looks at my HEART, not my height or popularity. I am Abraham's seed, an HEIR according to the promise, covered by the BARAK blessing that made murderers and liars prosper. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God IN CHRIST, complete and lacking nothing. My identity is MIGHTY WARRIOR, chosen before I proved anything. The Father ran to the prodigal while he still smelled like pigs—He's running toward ME right now with the robe and ring.
The Father isn't waiting for you to grow taller, get stronger, or become cooler—He's already calling you MIGHTY WARRIOR while you're still afraid. Like Gideon hiding in the winepress, God sees who you REALLY are in Him, not who middle school says you are.
