"I'm losing myself to dementia—I'm disappearing and there's nothing left of who I was."
How it sounds in your head: You forget names, repeat yourself, lose track of conversations. You see the worry in your family's eyes. You're terrified that you're vanishing piece by piece, that the 'real you' is already gone and what's left is just an empty shell.
"If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself."
-- 2 Timothy 2:13Enemy using fear of cognitive decline to make her believe her IDENTITY is her MEMORY—that losing mind means losing self.
She forgets things moments after they happen. She can't find words she's used her whole life. The fear of Alzheimer's or dementia haunts her, and every forgotten detail feels like proof she's disappearing.
Nebuchadnezzar lost his MIND completely—lived like an animal, eating grass, memory and reason GONE. When God restored him, his identity, kingdom, and honor returned INSTANTLY—nothing was lost permanently, and he came back GREATER in wisdom.
I REFUSE the lie that losing memory means losing myself. IT IS WRITTEN that even if I am faithless, GOD remains faithful—He cannot deny Himself, and I am IN HIM. My identity is not in my cognitive ability but in His unchanging nature. IT IS WRITTEN in Colossians 3:3 that my life is HIDDEN with Christ in God—even if my mind fails, my TRUE SELF is secure in Him, untouchable by disease or decline. I declare that I am not my memory—I am His BELOVED, and nothing can separate me from that identity. God knows me fully, even when I can't remember myself, and THAT is my anchor.
The Father doesn't love you because of your sharp mind—He loves you because you're HIS. Like a parent with a child who has amnesia, He doesn't stop knowing you, loving you, or cherishing you when you forget. You're safe.
