"I'm dying alone and forgotten. No one really cares what happens to me now."
How it sounds in your head: Your spouse is gone, your friends have died, your kids are busy with their own lives. You sit in this room day after day with only paid caregivers who are kind but strangers. When you die, who will even notice?
"For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
-- Hebrews 13:5Enemy curse of isolation contradicting God's promise to NEVER leave nor forsake and His declaration that He sets the solitary in families.
The room is quiet except for the television, the phone doesn't ring much anymore, and the faces you see are staff members who rotate shifts. The loneliness is physical, tangible, crushing.
Hagar was cast out into the wilderness with her dying son, abandoned by Abraham, no water, no hope, waiting for death alone. The INSTANT she cried out, God OPENED HER EYES to see the well that was there all along, and she and her son lived—God saw her, heard her, and provided immediately in her most desperate isolation.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm dying alone and forgotten! IT IS WRITTEN that God will NEVER leave me nor forsake me—NEVER means NEVER! Jesus is closer to me than my own breath, more present than any human could be. The barak blessing surrounds me with divine presence even when human presence fails, just as it protected Hagar in the wilderness when she was abandoned. I am SEEN by El Roi, the God who sees. IT IS WRITTEN that NOTHING can separate me from the love of God—not loneliness, not abandonment, not death itself! I am NOT alone; I am SURROUNDED by Heaven's hosts and FILLED with His presence!
The Father is sitting on the edge of your bed RIGHT NOW, holding your hand, singing over you, whispering, 'I see you, I'm here, I've NEVER left.' Every lonely moment is actually a sacred encounter with the Lover of your soul who has been waiting for this undistracted time with you, and He's savoring every second.
