"I'm angry at my parents and that makes me a bad Christian."
How it sounds in your head: Christians aren't supposed to be angry. I see everyone else at church with their 'perfect families' and I just feel rage when I think about mine. The anger proves I'm not really saved or Spirit-filled.
"Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath."
-- Ephesians 4:26Religion demonizing legitimate emotion, blocking the Psalms-level honesty God invites and honors.
Church culture preaches 'joy' and 'peace' constantly. Your anger feels like evidence of spiritual failure, especially when others seem to have it together.
Called the 'weeping prophet,' Jeremiah got so angry at God he said 'You DECEIVED me, and I was deceived... I am in derision daily' and cursed the day he was born. God didn't rebuke him—He let him vent, kept using him, and made his words SCRIPTURE.
I REFUSE the lie that anger at my parents' failures makes me less of a Christian. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Be ANGRY, and do not sin'—anger itself isn't the sin. Jesus felt anger. The Psalms are FULL of raw, furious honesty before God. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 62:8 to POUR OUT my heart before Him—not sanitized prayers, but the REAL mess. God can handle my anger. He's not fragile. I'm not rejecting Him by feeling fury at injustice—I'm TRUSTING Him enough to be honest. My anger doesn't disqualify me; my honesty INVITES His presence. I am LOVED in the mess, not just in the 'victory.'
The Father isn't waiting for you to 'calm down' before He'll engage with you. He's inviting the rage, the tears, the full unfiltered fury—He already knows it's there, and He's not intimidated. He's the safest place to bring the anger you've been choking down trying to look spiritual.
