"I'm a ghost in my own family—they visit out of duty, not because they actually want to see me."
How it sounds in your head: They look at their phones while I talk. Visits feel rushed, obligatory. They ask how I'm doing but don't really listen to the answer. I can tell they're counting the minutes until they can leave. I'm just a box to check on their to-do list: 'Visit Mom.'
"The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."
-- Zephaniah 3:17Enemy twisting normal busy-life dynamics into evidence of rejection and worthlessness.
Adult children are genuinely busy, visits may be brief, grandchildren are absorbed in their own lives. The pain of shorter visits and divided attention feels like proof of diminished love.
An old man who had been waiting his entire life for one moment—to see the Messiah. When he held baby Jesus, he said 'NOW I can die in peace because my eyes have seen Your salvation.' His whole life's purpose was fulfilled in ONE visit from God.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm just a duty or obligation. IT IS WRITTEN that God REJOICES over me with SINGING—I am His delight, not His burden. While others may be distracted, HE is fully present, fully attentive, memorizing every detail of my face. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 139:17-18 that His thoughts toward me outnumber the grains of sand—He thinks about me constantly, obsessively, joyfully. I am not tolerated; I am TREASURED. The BARAK blessing declares I am the HEAD and not the tail—I am honored, valued, prioritized in the Kingdom. I declare I am WANTED, CELEBRATED, and DELIGHTED in by the King of kings.
The Father doesn't check His watch when He's with you. He doesn't have anywhere more important to be. You have His FULL attention, His undivided focus, His complete delight. When He looks at you, everything else fades—you're not competing for His attention, you HAVE it.
