"I'm a burden now with my health issues—I'm too much trouble to truly love."
How it sounds in your head: You need help opening jars, remembering appointments, getting to doctors. You see the exhaustion in your children's eyes when they rearrange schedules for you. You hear the sigh when you call with another health concern. Love feels like it's turned to obligation.
"In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them; in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bore them and carried them all the days of old."
-- Isaiah 63:9Source: World's utility-based love that values what you contribute, combined with religious teaching that God's love is contingent on you not being a burden.
Every doctor's appointment you need a ride to, every task you can no longer do alone, every phone call for help feels like evidence. You see the strain your needs create, and it seems obvious that love couldn't possibly survive this much neediness.
Mephibosheth was crippled in both feet, completely dependent, hiding in fear of being a burden. King David didn't tolerate him—he brought him to the palace, gave him a permanent place at the royal table, restored all his grandfather's land, and gave him servants, declaring 'You shall eat at my table like one of the king's sons.'
I REFUSE the lie that my neediness exhausts God's love. IT IS WRITTEN that in all my affliction, He is afflicted, and He CARRIES me all my days. My health issues don't make me a burden; they make me a candidate for His carrying. The BARAK blessing promised that enemies are defeated and provision flows—not based on my strength but His covenant. IT IS WRITTEN that His strength is made perfect in weakness. My Father doesn't sigh when I call; He runs toward me with help already prepared, celebrating that His daughter is finally letting Him be Father.
The Father isn't exhausted by your needs—He's been waiting to bear you up, carrying you with tender pity. Every doctor's appointment, every struggle, every phone call for help is an opportunity for Him to demonstrate that His love INCREASES with your need, not decreases.
