"I'll never be trusted again. My reputation is permanently destroyed by my addiction years."
How it sounds in your head: You want to lead, serve, be given responsibility—but you know people remember. They remember the lies, the stealing, the mess. Even if you're different now, your past follows you. You feel like you'll always be 'the girl who struggled with addiction,' never just 'the girl who leads.'
"The Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will name."
-- Isaiah 62:2Source: Shame culture that defines people by their worst moment—denies the power of the Gospel to create a NEW NAME and NEW REPUTATION.
Trust is earned, and you broke it repeatedly. People have long memories. You've been passed over for opportunities because of 'concerns about your past.' The evidence feels overwhelming.
Saul murdered Christians—held the coats while Stephen was stoned, dragged families to prison. His reputation was TERROR. One encounter with Jesus and God changed his NAME and his MISSION. Became the greatest apostle, wrote half the New Testament. Nobody footnotes his letters with 'But remember, he used to kill believers.'
I REFUSE the lie that my reputation is ruined forever. IT IS WRITTEN: God has given me a NEW NAME that HE declares over me. I am not defined by who I was; I am IDENTIFIED by whose I am. IT IS WRITTEN: If anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW CREATION—the old has PASSED AWAY. That includes old reputations. I don't need people to forget my past; I need them to SEE my present. God doesn't whisper my new identity—He PROCLAIMS it. I am TRUSTED because I am IN CHRIST. I am QUALIFIED because HE qualifies. My name is not 'Addict.' My name is BELOVED.
The Father doesn't introduce you by your past. When He presents you, He says 'This is My BELOVED daughter in whom I am well pleased.' Saul the murderer became Paul the apostle. Your OLD name doesn't fit your NEW nature. God is rewriting your story, and the NEW CHAPTERS are louder than the old.
